Indigenous night - WA Spring Poetry Festival

Where : Bar 138 (Wellington Street end of Barrack Street)

When : Thursday 18 October, doors open 7.30 pm till ???

Whats happening : Poetry readings, story telling, music, short films, bush tucker and art.

Who is performing : Samuel Wagan Watson, Aunty Josie Boyle, Alf Taylor, Lois Olney, John McBain, Dave Collard and many more.

Films : David Ngoombujarra reading about WA history, the motorcar and the impact of drugs and grog on culture, plus starring in 2 short films on banks and stolen resources.

Lois Olney on water, Sue Gordon on Lois Olney and stolen generation, Alf Taylor, the Ottey centre Noongar rangers puppet show, John McBain and some up and coming Aboriginal poets.

The event will be filmed – if you want to say something about country, the Burrup, land rights, racism, deaths in custody, footy, Howard’s NT moves, grog bans, sexual abuse – come along. Bring a poem to read – doesn’t have to be your own.

Bring your black fella sense of humour and fun – we want positive suggestions about these issues delivered with a smile.
