Dorothy PorterSUCCESSFUL MAVERICK AUTHOR & LIBRETTIST, DOROTHY PORTER, IS GIVING A TALK & READING AT THE OCTOBER WA SPRING POETRY FESTIVALTICKETS NOW ON SALE! Author of The Monkey’s Mask (made into film) and now another crime-thriller El Dorado, Dorothy Porter is one of Australia’s most maverick and versatile poets. According to the Weekend Australian, her new verse novel El Dorado sold 4,000 copies in the first month. Porter is not only innovative, but a prize-winning author. Her books include Driving Too Fast, Crete, Other Worlds, Akhenaten, What a Piece of Work, and Wild Surmise. The Monkey’s Mask won the Age Book of the Year for poetry, the National Book Council Award, and the Braille Book of the Year for poetry. Her libretto The Eternity Man (written for the chamber opera with composer Jonathon Mills) was a joint winner of the inaugural Genesis Foundation opera prize in London (2003) and premiered at the Almeida Theatre, London, in the same year. It was performed in Australia at the Sydney Opera House for the Sydney Festival 2005. It is currently being made into a film in Sydney as a joint Channel 4 UK/ABC TV production directed by the British director, Julien Temple, (best known for his film on The Sex Pistols – “The Filth and the Fury”). Dorothy Porter will be visiting Perth to feature in a special festival event called ‘An Afternoon with Dorothy Porter’ incorporating a talk, reading, book signing and Q&A time. Venue: The State Library of WA, Library Theatre, Perth Cultural Centre. Sunday 14th October at 1.00pm.
