100 turn out for Public Meeting

Just under 100 people, including students and residents from suburbs adjacent and surrounding, attended a public meeting in Floreat on Monday night to listen to speakers and discuss 'where to now?' for the Underwood Avenue Bushland. The meeting was organised by the Nedlands Electors Association (NEA) after what was seen by many as blatantly undemocratic and secretive moves by the Nedlands City Council to do a back-flip on their previous decision to oppose the University of Western Australia's (UWA) destructive development plans.

Public meeting Monday May 24, with speakers and discussion on the future of Underwood bushland

Come along to a public meeting called by the Nedlands Electors' Association and open to all who want to learn about the bushland and how we can help to save it for the future after Nedlands council's decision to support UWA's proposal to destroy the area's habitat values and Nyungah cultural significance.

Draper St, Floreat
7.30pm-9pm, Monday May 24th
Hope to see you there ^_^

Community campaign meeting for creative strategising to save Underwood!

Bring some snacks to share, or just your dreams, schemes, and means to get the bushland saved! See you there :)

Nedlands council rescinds decision to protect woodland

After making the decision on December 15th 2009 to recommend against the implementation of UWA's proposal to destroy Underwood Ave. Bushland, the City of Nedlands has now gone back on its decision and voted to endorse the proposal with a few minor adjustments. This comes after the university vice chancellor Allan Robson made a private presentation first to the Nedlands council, and then separately to the mayor Sheryl Froese and councilor Max Hipkins, in efforts to convince the council to rescind its decision against the proposal.
