Perth – Karratha/Dampier - Hosted by Friends of Australian Rock Art

We've asked you to stand up and now we invite you to come up to the Burrup! FARA invite you to join us to see the ancient rock art of the Burrup Peninsula first hand.

The itinerary will include:
- guided visits out to the Burrup Peninsula by archaeological and anthropological experts,
- the opportunity to take part in pro-active heritage conservation work concerning the Burrup rock art, and
- a chance to challenge Woodside's right to determine the future of the Burrup.

We are seeking registrations of interest for this tour now. If you are interested in joining us we need to know your preferred mode of travel:
- Option 1: Join FARA on a guided, fully self contained (all camping, all catering affair) coach charter (max capacity 48) or
- Option 2: Self sufficient ie. own transport, own accommodation/camping equipment etc. Meet up with FARA in Karratha/Dampier.

For more information please refer to attached flyer and general information letter or contact Jeannine on 0421 616 943 or fara.perth@gmail.com

Please feel free to circulate this invite to any others that may be interested in this trip. Bookings are essential for the coach option. Please register your interest for this option by Friday 15th June.

WA Government blacklisted as heritage vandals - again! READ MORE...

FARA urge all friends to write an email this week to the decision makers below expressing their personal disgust that Woodside and the WA government have allowed the Burrup to be re-listed on the World Monument Fund's Most Endangered Sites List for the 6th year running!! This is the third time the Burrup has been listed (biennial listing) and is the only Australian site ever nominated! Not something to be proud of! It is a shameful list for Australia to be part of and one that the WA Government and Woodside are ultimately responsible for! Stand up for the Burrup!

Child Care at SoS

SoS is a family friendly zone!

We offer FREE childcare services during the conference!

So that means you can go to the lectures and workshops and the little ones will be occupied with interactive games and activities, giving them a head start into the life of being an environmental activist!!!

If you require childcare, even if you're not registering just yet, you need to let us know NOW!

We'd love to know what suggestions you have for activities, or what your children might need or want to do during the conference, so please call Danni for a chat :)

Highschool
They’ve got some schools to go to this week
There’s been a lot of interest from Year 10 students at different schools, but they’ll need to bring a guardian/adult – one school can provide supervising adults
In general it’s been very positive

Rego
Well as of 31/05/07 we’ve had 47 people registered and 5 paid!!!
**We need something on the web about what sustainable transport is, and who the discount applies to – specifically East coast, but if they are from WA they email rego
**Someone do an email to post out to Perth, about extending early bird rego till next Thursday 7th June. People need to register ASAP so we can organise food etc especially WA people

Speakers
Skeletons are out (Tues, Wed, Thur) now we need to bulk up days with who’s speaking, who’s confirmed etc...
We need to know when speakers are available day/time, ask them to give a format of they’re lecture/workshop be specific

*confirming speakers – database, bring speakers you’ve contacted on Sunday
We will call to confirm all speakers and ask for a bio of talk/workhop

Workshops
Process for accepting workshops – send the description of the workshop to the loop, and the collective will discuss and reach consensus.
Some lecture time will be set aside for open space, plus set open space time
*change workshop form to inform people that Open space is available, on Monday at check-in there’s the big board etc

Promo
Flyer - fold out timetable/SoS banner/ blurb on the back – to have at cafes etc, Dom and Trent have a draft by Sunday

Maybe everyone meet up for lunch? Have a peaceful picnic? If possible get support crew to drive over with fruit water etc

Offer to oversee entire kitchen for whole conference. Was agreed to pay him $700 now, until we can look over our budget later and maybe offer an extra $300.

Have a tip jar for the chef.
We don’t need qualifications for health/safety regulations
Food budget is $45000 - $5 per head x 500 people = $37000
Food budget will only be confirmed at the very last minute due to numbers – we can only get rough estimates
Estimates for caterers etc 500 dinner, 600 day – in 2 weeks, need final numbers
Getting 3 different marquees:
5x5 or 6x6 $350 for 5 days
10x5 = chai tent ~ $1000 for 5 days
15x40 = big enough for kitchen in ¼ and seats 300 ~ $4500 for 5 days
still sourcing marquees!!!
will need 6-8 able people to set up marquee – takes 8 hours to put up on Sat, and take down on Sunday. We will get training.
Want to buy honey – honey isn’t vegen – for breaky table, not in any cooking. Will be in demand and can’t be replaced. Will get 10kg – will not be replaced.
Find a good company?
Serve honey and have info on why it’s bad ...

Childcare
Murdoch CC has a couple of places between 3-6 years – but that means individual fees which are expensive
We can’t hire people for them
So, we will set up a CC room which needs paid workers to run it. We know we’ve got babies and older kids coming, already bout 10
Definitely need volunteers
Needs a coordinator – this is too much for danni to do.
